There is $1.2 quadrillion invested in derivatives alone.

There is $1.2 quadrillion invested in derivatives alone.

MARKETS REPORTER

Ever wonder how much money there is in the world?

The answer is complicated, which you might expect, but not because of the difficulty of tallying up all the rather large numbers. Rather, it’s more about which parameters are used to define “money.”
“The amount of money that exists changes depending on how we define it. The more abstract definition of money we use, the higher the number is,” said Jeff Desjardins, an editor of Visual Capitalist, who put together an infographic to answer this question.

For purists, who believe money refers only to currencies such as bank notes, coins, and money deposited in savings or checking accounts, the total is somewhere around $80.9 trillion.
But for those preferring a broader interpretation, including digital currency bitcoin, above-ground gold supply, and funds invested in various financial products like derivatives, the amount is in the quadrillions.

This is what a quadrillion looks like written out: 1,000,000,000,000,000.
Funds invested in derivatives alone total $1.2 quadrillion. In fact, there is more money in derivatives than in all the stock markets combined, which is a comparatively paltry $70 trillion. The U.S. accounts for roughly half of the global market cap thanks to companies like Apple Inc. AAPL, -0.09% Alphabet Inc.GOOGL, +0.83% and Microsoft Corp. MSFT, +0.95%
Investment in commercial real estate, often the most visible symbol of wealth, pales in comparison to stocks or derivatives at $7.6 trillion.

As for money owed by every single person and country in the world, the grand total is $199 trillion, with some 29% of it borrowed since the 2008 financial crisis.
The U.S. is responsible for nearly one-third of that global debt, while Europe follows at 26% and Japan at 20%. China, for all the criticism about its debt-fueled economic growth, owes 6% of the total.

And despite the attention bitcoin has received in recent years as an alternative currency, it clearly has a long way to go. The value of all bitcoin in circulation is estimated at $5 billion, a proverbial drop in the bucket.

Met up and had a pleasant light dinner and coffee with my lifelong friends.

Day 10 - wednesday

Taking its toll.

Wifey and I decided to cut short their trip!

Came home after office with cranky mood. Maybe the work maybe the travel maybe with all of these things.

Had a minor spat with my eldest over house chores. Cooked dinner and rested over concert you tube of nievera.

Caught up with skype at home with wifey and baby and before i knew it the day is over!

No golf invites so domesticated Mark I am today. Before i went to bed had a gastric attack. Could be due to spicy chicken and diet coke.

Day 9 - tuesday

The day started slow but picking up pace very quickly.

Its noon now and after responding and getting some work done at the office, wifey is now reconsidering to come earlier than the planned one month.

From the looks of it, it seems the travel date would be cut short by a full week!

Day 8 - monday

Bad news after bad news with expectant of good to follow later in the day.

After a sluggish monday I pulled myself out of bed and still managed to come to work. But as soon as I decided to get the car fixed, the repairman brought in a bad news.

My tire puncture is beyond repair. I ask for decent explanation. It made sense. So there you go, a 180 dollar freak occurence.

Day 7 - sunday

Game winning stint!

This is the cap of the day! It started with golf in the early morning. Church followed  soon after. Fellowship with church bros and by the time the day is over I was too tired to do anything else. Rested somewhere 6pm and coached a basketball team from 8 to 10 PM.

Saturday, October 10, 2015

Day 6 - saturday

Domestic chores.

Mostly the theme for today. Woke up late, had brunch with my eldest and drove my 2nd boy to school.

Cleaned up the house till 2pm. Rested and drove again my boys to band rehersals! While "killing time" swung by an IT shop to check on whats latest and 2nd hand iphones.

As I write this entry its 530pm. Whered the time go????!

Contrarian thinking

Chatting with my boy

1. In business stocks - be greedy when everyone is fearful and be fearful when everyone is greedy.

2. In sports - one step ahead of your opponent.

3. In life - do what extraordinary people do.

Day 5 - friday

A wife is the light of the house!

Ive been living in darkness for quite a while now. As soon as the routine sets in its like Im a mindless guy going thru the motions of everyday without a life. A purpose and a direction.

Today was an example. After having my morning concalls at work I ended up skipping lunch and worked out. Still for the lifeless soul of me I felt inadequate.

Like life is snuffed out of my chest. No heartbeat. Just a walking talking head with not being certain if I am being coherent.

Aaah one week has just passed and Im this? Unless change in the routine occurs, I dread the next three!

Wednesday, October 7, 2015

Day 4 - thursday

By this time my emotional attachment to my wife and baby starts to normalize. (A.k.a sinking in).

A conference call later tonight would break my cooking routine. Decided i will just take out dinner for my boys.

After the concall im thinking of playing boardgames or reading a good book to de stress. Maybe a ride (granting haze free) would come in  handy. Lets see.

Day 3 - wednesday

Dinner is sweet and sour pork. All time favorite of my boys!

And so there goes my day. Like a chaff in the wind. Just flew by! Workwise just being a workhorse, wrapping things up.

At the end of my day, cooking for my boys becomes a joy to behold.

But wait, towards the early evening my golfer friends invited me to hit some balls. With some reluctance, I obliged. A 2 hr session ended in midnight, with after range fellowship of prata and coffee.

By the time Im in bed its past midnight already. Oh well, contrary to what people think " I dont have all the time in world!"

Tuesday, October 6, 2015

Day 2 - tuesday

Woke up very early to pick up my boss. Everything went according to plan. No major issues at work. Just cruising the last quarter of the year. Slight problems here and there..no house is burning theme whatsoever.

Went home early to cook japanese menu and prepare for dinner. Promised my son to treat him after last nights small arg.

During dinner prep, decided to teach my son how to fish. He agreed. Just at the beginning part another miscue happened! Darn the half and the one half!

Well managed to recap the night by enjoying an ice cream. Came home and still too early to bed 1030. Decided to watch military movie in the hope to make me sleep. Bad choice!

An officer and a gentleman proved too good to pass up. Ended up finishing the movie. Bed at 130am? Naaaah, need to craft a poem for my wife. Miss her and our angel immensely!!

Day 1 - monday

Work went on as usual. Prepared my presentation for my boss visit. Nothing crucial on the horizon. Monday blues if you might.

Asked my 2nd boy what would he want for dinner.  He gladly obliged when I cooked his fav pork rib soup. Asked my first son to buy light and hose replacement. Miscommunication even with just 1 generation apart!

Decided not to attend work call at 10pm. Too late and too stressed from the argument with my boy. Ended up watching sicario movie. Left the movie house heavy hearted.

The consolation - happy ending! Wifey rose up to mediate between my eldest and me. Reconciled at last!! Wonderful letter. Rebuked with love!

One month without my boy and wife

I have not done this before.
Yup. And like all experiences in life, I take this with one eye to the future and another at the past.
The past is a good teacher. But a very poor master.  Its good to look for tell tale signs why we behave the way we behave.
But if we dont get over bad ones and champion the good, we will forever be in a quagmire. Always reflecting. Never moving.
Day 1 is a breeze. As soon as my wife and baby boarded the plane went thru the routine sunday. Then golf. Then dinner. Then driver. Then counsellor. Then maid...

25 Dos and Donts in Investing in Watch -

From a Watch forum...

Here's a funny and entertaining... yet informative set of guidelines lifted from another site
Credit goes to yukiliu002

1) Never settle or compromise.
If a Rolex is really what you want, don't throw away money on a Seiko just to buy. Save that money toward the Rolex. If need be, buy a used model and have it
refurbished.

2) Whenever possible, pay cash.
Don't rob Peter to pay Paul. Avoid credit cards like the plague; interest rates
eat up discounts. Buy what you can afford.

3) Buy for YOU, not someone else.
If you look long and hard enough you will find someone in TZ, or somewhere else
who will criticize your choice no matter what it is. Buy for you, not to impress someone else.

4) Consider the movement.
Consider the movement in the watch. Shoot for in-house or fine base calibers like the Zenith El Primero, Piguet, Lemania, Venus...but don't buy a style you
don't like simply because the movement is a great one. You can't wear a watch
inside-out.

5) Consider the manufacturer.
There are great ones to choose from but never buy just because of the name!
Patek is considered one of the finest, if not the best manufacturer out there.
But if you don't like the designs, don't buy one!

6) You won't become the watch.
The watch won't change you. It is a watch. Einstein had a Patek, Hemingway
wore Rolex and Omega. If you buy a Patek it won't make you a genius, and neither
an Omega or Rolex will improve your writing.

7) Size matters.
Large watches are a fad and a style. Some really look good. Consider your wrist
size because a really oversized watch on a small wrist looks sloppy. If you do
buy a large watch, make sure your shirt cuffs will fit over it. You don't want
to have to redo your wardrobe to fit your watch!

8. Get Insurance.
You will sleep better.

9) There is always going to be a better deal.
Shortly after you make a purchase, you will spot that exact same model selling
for less. It is one of life's little jokes. Don't let it bother you.

10) Keep in mind that salespeople are usually only objective about watches that
they sell.

11) The journey can be more fun than the destination.
Shortly after a purchase you may experience a let down. Let it pass, it's normal.

12) If it is broke, fix it.
To err is human. It is better to fix a mistake than try to live with it. If you
really aren't happy with a purchase, get rid of it!

13) Consider color.
All stainless steel, all white gold, all platinum with a bracelet goes with
everything. With a black strap, almost everything.
18k&black strap is dressy. 18k&brown strap is elegant but more casual, and
looks good with browns, tans, blues, yellow, green, and sometimes even gray.
White dials are dressier and easier to read, black dials are more cool and sporty.

14) Accuracy is relative.
Your self-winding watch isn't as accurate as your quartz. However it can be 99%
accurate. Off by just a few seconds out of over 80,000 each day is pretty amazing.

15) Take care of your good watches.
Get them serviced, keep them clean. They'll last longer than you will.

16) This is want, not need.
No one ever needs a luxury watch, this is about want. If you ask yourself, "do
I need this?" the honest answer is always, "no."

17) Never buy a watch as an investment.
Some watches will retain value, most don't. The watch that actually appreciates
in value is unique and chances are it will be your grandchildren who benefit,
not you.

18) No one watch will satisfy you completely
There is no single definitive model.

19) The more you know, the less you need.
A collection of 4 exceptional watches is better than a collection of 10 mediocre
ones.

20) Only engrave if it is a special gift.

21) Buy what you will wear, not for an occasion.
Don't run out and buy a dressy watch for just one special night. You probably
have one you can wear that will be just fine, or don't wear one at all.

22) Wear it.
If it has been two months since you wore it, you don't really like it. Get something you want to wear.

23) Limited is usually a marketing term.
Limited to 5,000 pieces is not limited. Limited to 2,000 isn't either.
Really limited is 30. Or 10. Or one.

24) You don't have to justify to anyone except yourself.
Someone will someday say, "you paid that much for a watch!!!" You are not obligated to explain, and they won't understand anyway.

25) Don't look at the Patek on the other guy's wrist and be envious.
Look at the watch on your wrist and be happy. Don't judge anyone by the watch they wear,
including yourself.

2015 ancestral house

Its time.

For the longest time Ive had to delay the ancestral house renovation. Many events both personal and professional have take precedent. Thus the delay.

I promised myself that I have to have a major investment or purchase decision executed.

First 3 years, I bought my house, in cash. 2nd 3 years I bought my car. And the 3rd 3 years I bought an apartment.

So far so good. Or so I thought. In parallel I Invested .5M pesos also in the purchase of land and construction gear for set up of a business. But business was not meant to be. Learned valuable lesson though.

And since its ancestral I have to commission the aid of my younger siblings to pitch in. After all with ageing parents, the home shall be a place for reunions and family gatherings.
